With a little imagination you can translate your favourite designer runway looks into your personal style
This segment will give you ideas on selecting styles that can be easily adapted to suit your unique personality.
Lets face it we would all like to be decked off in designer trends, but our budget will not allow it. Shopping at consignment stores or even thrift stores is smart and you can purchase designer garbs at a fraction of the cost.
With some creativity you can put together pieces you have in your wardrobe to capture the look of the season seen on the runway and adapt it to your personality without putting a dent in your budget.
if you are handy with the sewing machine that’s an added bonus. You can take almost anything and make it into a fab look alike you see on the runway or you can purchase a garment that’s not your size and adjust it to your personal fit.
AN IMITATION OF STYLE
It’s fun translating the runway to your closet. You can be imaginative and create your own unique style and still have the effect of high fashion by using pieces you already have in your wardrobe without interrupting your budget.
I imitated this Carolina Herrera design with pieces I already have in my wardrobe.
A black taffeta skirt, teamed up with a white shirt and contrasting orange belt and added a little extra accents with coloured beads
This look can be created with any colour maxi skirt you have in your closet and coordinating with a shirt and contrasting belt. You can take it up a notch by accessorizing with a necklace or scarf.
THE MAGIC OF LACE
Altuzarra Resort 2018
Lace has been very popular for the past few seasons it’s so romantic and can add new dimension to an outfit.
This is a black shirt my daughter gave me that I revamped to simulate the design from Altuzarra Resort and adapted the look to my personality and comfort level.
I purchased this lace on sale at the fabric store
Stitched the lace around the hem and sleeve of the shirt
I teamed it up with a cuffed capri ideal for summer, without the sweater.
A SHIRT BY ANY OTHER STYLE…
I wanted a shirt dress for the summer and could not find what I had in mind. I took a shirt from my significant other, which was scheduled for the donation bag and inserted some lace trim. I wear it as a dress or over black tights. These is no end of what you can create if you are handy with the sewing machine.
SOME TIPS ON ALTERATIONS – IS IT WORTH IT?
If you never became acquainted with the sewing machine, one thing to bear in mind about having alterations done by a tailor or dressmaker is that alterations can be costly, if it’s a simple adjustment ie: lengthening or shortening a garment, then alterations can be considered, however, if a garment requires major alterations, like remodeling, ask yourself these questions, how many times are your going to wear it? does this garment have sentimental meaning for you? or is it a rear item that cannot be replaced? since the cost of alterations can be considerably more than purchasing a new garment. The reason for the increase costs is because when remodeling, the garment has to be taken apart before the necessary adjustments can be made. Also remodeling can change the look and fit of the garment.
Remodeling a garment is a tricky and time consuming operation and a skill that should not be underestimated. Unless the item that needs alterations has special significance to you, then it is more feasible to purchase a new outfit.
You don’t have to be a couturier to do your own alterations, just learn the basics. there are sewing classes available, both online or sit-in classes which ever best suits your needs, If you love fashion it will not only save you a fortune in alterations but you can always be decked in the latest trends.
